If you can dream it, I'll help you get it

Hello my friend:

It's about that time now when all the people who set that
resolution for the new year come to the realization that
it's not going to happen... for the 17th year in a row.

It can still happen, whatever "it" happens to be.

And it's so ridiculously easy.

And simple...

...BUT you must know that to stop feeling bad and stop
making stupid decisions, you need to alter your "internal
representations."

Or else it's a struggle the whole time.

Meaning that if you want to stop overeating, for example,
you need to change what food "means" to you.  If food only
(or primarily) means pleasure, then the more you eat, the
better you feel... at least temporarily.  And you'll never
get it.

Even if you are grotesquely obese.

But if continuing to eat, in this example, means that
you'll feel like crap, then you won't.

And no amount of beating yourself up, no praying, no
blaming anyone, no medication and not even stomach surgery
is going to change your actions.  Because if you want to do
something badly enough, you are going to do it.  To heck
with the consequences.

(It's true, at the store where I buy a lot of jewelry is a
saleswoman who had gastric bypass a couple years ago.  She
dropped a bunch of tonnage fast, but now every month she
continues to get bigger and Bigger and BIGGER.  At this
rate, she'll be back to her pre-surgery size within the
next 4-6 months).  Because nothing changed between her ears,
only the size of her stomach.

This is true of any emotion or behavior that you want to
change in any area of your life.

By far, the most effective thing you can do to change life-
long decisions and actions quickly and in the long-term is
to change your inner self-talk.  It's the easiest, too.

Most people don't even know they are the cause of their
own problems.  In fact, most people deny it their whole
lives.  Most people would fight to the death rather than
admit their problems are their own doing.

One woman in her 50s, in fact, recently told me she wanted
to die if the pain from her arthritis got much worse.  I
told her about simple dietary changes she could make that
would reduce acids throughout her body, but she said if she
had to give up any foods she ate (and her diet is
atrocious), she'd just assume die right now.  Instead,
she's taking medication that gave her an ulcer and taking
another one to combat the ulcer...

She'd rather suffer even more pain than change any habits.

Don't laugh.  Most people are like this in MANY areas of
their lives.  You are definitely in this group... in some
area of your life.

I've learned this thousands of times with people who've
come to us with problems.  Just asked questions.  It comes
down to their beliefs...

When you believe you can do something (I mean REALLY
believe you can, you can.  No matter what that "something"
is.

When you can imagine yourself doing a thing and see that
"new you" in your mind regularly, change is a snap.  And you
don't fight it at all.

When you start enjoying doing a "goal achieving"
activity/task, then you'll do it a lot... and without any
fight at all.

When you see the "rewards" of achieving something
(sticking with your resolution) as super attractive instead
of with indifference, you'll move heaven and earth to get
it done.

Is this rocket science?

Hardly.

But people go into therapy for years and years and years,
and hardly anything changes.  Hundreds of thousands of
people do it yearly.  Just read the text books psychology
students are forced to study and you'll see why.  The
garbage doesn't work.  So they are taught to prescribe
pharmaceuticals instead... "Your brain must be broken...
yeah, that's the ticket!"

You could get into a support group (a highly effective way
to ensure behavior change), but first you gotta get
yourself to regular meetings. Most people need a support
group just to make sure they go to their support group
meetings.

Friends and family are usually no help at all... right?

Most of them don't want you to achieve your dreams... you
failing makes them feel better about the fact that they've
got mediocre or downright lousy lives themselves, right?
Maybe not in your family, but in the majority.

"No changing you for... you gotta stay like us."

It's time to start feeling strong.

It's time to start feeling optimistic.

Because you can stop or start any habit you want.  You can
change any area of your life, no matter how old you are.

pessimistic and FALSE negative crap going on in your head.
