Mike Brescia here again. This is Day 3 of your 6-Day Think Right Now! class. Are you ready? Great, because today's lesson is super exciting. Let's get started! They needed less medication... And they healed faster. Testing showed that it was, indeed, the music that created this effect. Over the years, Lozanov was fascinated by people who exhibited amazing mental feats. Psychics, yogis and the like. Dr. Lozanov noted in his research that when people had performed feats of 'supermemory' and clairvoyance, instruments showed their brainwaves to be at an alpha level (relaxed) and that many parts of their brains went even deeper, into theta. Before I Lose You... Below is an ever so BRIEF explanation of brainwaves. Our brains produce electrical impulses all the time... These currents of electricity, or brainwaves, are measured in amplitude (power) and frequency. The frequency is the speed of the brainwave, measured in cycles per second (CPS). The frequency determines the four categories of brainwaves, as well as your state of consciousness: Beta: (14-38 CPS) This is your normal waking, conscious state. Beta waves are associated with logical thinking, decision-making and concrete problem solving, and help us to function consciously in the world everyday. When we are stressed, our brainwaves are at the high end of this scale. Alpha: (8-14 CPS) During this state your eyes are likely closed. You are relaxing (but not sleeping), and perhaps daydreaming, visualizing or fantasizing. Alpha waves provide the 'bridge' between the conscious and subconscious mind; they are the reason that you remember your dreams. Theta: (4-8 CPS) These can be thought of as the subconscious, and are most active during dreaming sleep or deep meditation. They are associated with creative activity, spiritual experiences and high functioning brain states. Delta: (.5-4 CPS) These brainwaves make up your unconscious mind and are most often present during deep sleep, as they provide the restorative stage of sleep. When these waves are present in a conscious state, they are responsible for feelings of 'intuition', 'instinct' or a 'sixth sense.' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Many brainwave experts have concluded that the alpha brainwave level is the 'bridge' to the subconscious theta level... that when you hear, see or feel anything while in this relaxed state, you remember it better and are influenced by it more... ...It becomes who you are much faster. This is what I mean... | --- | --- | --- | --- | Recently, a study was done at UC Irvine's Center for Neurobiology of Learning and Memory. 36 undergraduate students were given spatial reasoning tests on a standard IQ (Intelligence Quotient) test. Each student listened to Mozart's sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, K. 448 for ten minutes before the first test. Before the second test, they listened to a relaxation tape. And before the third, they sat in silence. The average scores for all 36 students were 119, 111 and 110 respectively. Obviously, they didn't increase their IQ's by nine points in just 10 minutes. They were more relaxed. Stress was greatly reduced. Thus, more of the information they already had in their minds was made available to them by their more accomodating brain. However, with repeated exposure to the slow music, other studies have shown that IQ's do indeed go up permanently. So when we relax to rhythms like you'll hear throughout every TRN! audio program, connections are taking place in our brains and we can indeed become smarter! --- The Delivery Of The Information --- While remarkable, the music is only the first part of this amazing formula... Lozanov noted that it didn't really matter WHAT was being learned. It was HOW the information was conveyed that made the difference. He found that you can learn almost anything faster and easier if it is taught in this special way... The 'how' consists of 2 parts: 1) Pacing He found that if information was presented at one-second intervals (rapid fire), people remembered only about 20% of it. At five-second intervals, they remembered about 30% of what they heard. But when information was given every 8-10 seconds, the average retention rate was over 40%. 2) Repetition Repetition of the information was also a key factor in maximizing learning. If the same information was repeated three times every 8- 10 seconds, with eyes closed and relaxed, retention rose from 40% to over 95%. Yeah, 95%. THAT is what turned me on 15 years ago. THAT is what got me thinking about installing the beliefs, the attitudes and the penchant for action found in the people that I wanted to be like. As magical as this may sound, it's very real... It's almost as if the information is able to be dumped into the subconscious mind, giving a person a real knowing similar to how they would know something that had been repeated to them hundreds of times instead of only just a few. As ridiculously simple as it sounds, it's power is undisputed in the academic and corporate circles where it's used to quickly teach massive amounts of information. And the people who play TRN! programs as prescribed are usually stunned by the changes they make with practically no effort at all. It's this simplicity and power that initially drew me to it to try to gain new skills and attitudes.
